Proxalutamide is a research tool. It is a ligand that binds to the androgen receptor, which is found in prostate cancer cells. Proxalutamide is used as an activator of the androgen receptor in cell biology experiments and as an inhibitor of protein interactions in pharmacology experiments. Proxalutamide has been shown to be an antagonist of the ion channels TRPV1, TRPA1, and TRPM8. It also acts as a high-affinity antibody for cellular proteins such as cytochrome P450 enzymes CYP2C9 and CYP3A4.
