Trans-3-(4-aminophenyl)acrylate ethyl ester is metabolized by an enzymatic reaction, forming a covalent bond with the damaged DNA strand and thereby preventing further damage to the DNA. This drug can be considered reversible because it can be hydrolyzed by enzymes such as thymidine phosphorylase and thymidine kinase.
