Pyronaridine is a drug that belongs to the class of antimalarial drugs. It has been used to treat malaria, which is caused by the Plasmodium parasite. Pyronaridine inhibits the growth of malaria parasites by interfering with their digestion of hemoglobin and other proteins. It also inhibits protein synthesis in cells infected with the parasite, leading to cell lysis. Pyronaridine has been shown to be effective against chloroquine-resistant strains of malaria and may be useful in treating autoimmune diseases.
