TUG-891 is a research tool that can be used to activate, block, or modulate the receptor. It has been shown to have an affinity for ligand (forskolin) and receptor (adenylate cyclase). TUG-891 is also able to bind to cell membranes and ion channels. The binding of TUG-891 to the receptor increases the activity of adenylate cyclase, which in turn increases cAMP levels in cells. TUG-891 has been shown to inhibit the production of protein kinase A by binding to phosphorylase kinases. As such, it can be used as a pharmacological agent against diseases caused by abnormal protein synthesis.
