MDA-MB-231 is a human breast cancer cell line. This cyclic peptide has been shown to have antiviral and antibacterial properties in in vitro studies. MDA-MB-231 has also been shown to inhibit the tyrosine kinase activity of cholesteryl ester transfer protein, an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of cholesterol esters from HDL to LDL, thereby reducing the amount of cholesterol available for uptake by cells. The lipoprotein that is produced by MDA-MB-231 cells is a functional analog of high density lipoprotein (HDL). This lipoprotein binds to endothelial cells and induces cholesterol efflux, which may be responsible for its anti-inflammatory effects.
