Agomelatine is a ligand and receptor activator that binds to the 5-HT2C receptor. It has been shown to inhibit voltage-gated potassium channels and calcium ion channels in rat hippocampal neurons. Agomelatine also interacts with a number of other receptors, including alpha 2 adrenergic, histamine H1, muscarinic M1, and serotonin 5-HT3. Agomelatine is used as a research tool for cell biology studies.
