Product Information
Rubicordifolin is a cytotoxic compound that belongs to the group of naphthopyranones. It is a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth and has been shown to have inhibitory activities against S. aureus strains in vitro. Rubicordifolin is also an ammonium nitrate-based explosive, which may be used as a detonator or booster for other explosives. Rubicordifolin can be synthesized from 2-amino-1,4-dimethylnaphthalene and ammonium nitrate with heat treatment. The reaction proceeds through oxidative condensation of the amine and nitrating agents to form the corresponding aminonitroso compound, which then undergoes secondary reactions to give rubicordifolin. The biosynthesis of this compound involves tyrosinase (a type of enzyme) and methides as intermediates in the reaction pathway.
