Imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-2(3H)-one (IMP) is an imidazopyridine with significant effects on psychomotor function in vivo. It is a cholinesterase inhibitor and has been shown to react with acetylcholine at the postsynaptic level. IMP also has significant effects on reaction time and cognitive functions. In vitro tests have shown that it can inhibit butyrylcholinesterase, which breaks down acetylcholine, leading to higher levels of acetylcholine in the brain. This may be beneficial for people with Alzheimer's disease or other diseases that involve memory loss.
