It has been shown to exhibit strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. 6-(4-Hydoxy-3-methylphenyl)-2-methylhept-2-en-4-one inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes, which are involved in the biosynthesis of inflammatory prostaglandins. This compound also blocks pain sensation by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses through the central nervous system.
