It has been shown to inhibit the activity of human immunoglobulin and enzyme activities in vitro, as well as to scavenge anion radicals. The protonated form of pyrogallol is a substrate for hydrogen bonding interactions, which are observed with water vapor. Pyrogallol is also able to form hydrogen bonds with other compounds such as p-hydroxybenzoic acid. Hydrogen bonding interactions have been shown to play an important role in the oxidative injury process in humans.
