Testosterone has been shown to increase levels of natriuretic peptides (NPs), which are important for regulating blood pressure and fluid balance. A deficiency of testosterone has also been linked to bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. In addition, testosterone may be used as a model system for studying other steroids because it has been found to bind to specific proteins on the surface of human cells, called CDNA clones.</p>
