N-Methyloctylamine is a low energy, organic extractant that is soluble in water and ethanol. It has been shown to be an effective agent for the extraction of adenine nucleotides from acidic aqueous solutions. The hydroxyl group on the molecule enables oxidation reactions with molecules containing aldehyde groups, such as diphenyl ethers and amines. N-Methyloctylamine has also been shown to be an effective catalyst for transfer reactions between particles, such as nanoparticles.
