It binds directly to viruses and inhibits virus-host endosomal acidification. P9R significantly protects mice from infection by influenza A H1N1 virus (A(H1N1)pdm09) without leading to resistant viruses. P9R is applicable in studying pH-dependent respiratory viruses.
