Applications Methanesulfonic acid is a strong acid and is an important intermediate in the cycling process of sulfur in the environment. Methanesulfonic acid is an oxidation product of Dimethyl sulfide (T348000), and is also used as a sole source of carbon and energy for some gram-negative methylotropic bacteria.
