Ginkgolide A is a platelet-activating factor antagonist, it can inhibit the neurotoxicity of prions or amyloid-beta1-42, may be relevant treatments for prion or Alzheimer's diseases.Ginkgolide A has neuroprotective, and anxiolytic-like effects, it is widely used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and diabetic vascular complications, which might be achieved through regulating the STAT3-mediated pathway.

Cynaropicrin is a potent activator of the AhR-Nrf2-Nqo1 pathway, and could therefore be applied to prevention of UVB-induced photo aging; it may be a potential anticancer agent against some leukocyte cancer cells such as lymphoma or leukemia, through pro-apoptotic activity. Cynaropicrin shows in vivo activity against Trypanosoma brucei. Cynaropicrin possesses immunomodulatory effects on cytokine release, nitric oxide production and immunosuppressive effects. 8-Gingerol is one of the principal components of ginger, which is widely used in China and elsewhere as a food, spice and herb, shows immunosuppressive activity on the immune responses to ovalbumin (OVA) in mice, 8-gingerol suppressed lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and concanavalin A (ConA)-stimulated splenocyte proliferation in vitro.

Alpha-hederin as a pro-drug, has cytotoxic and apoptotic/necrotic effects in a dose- and time-dependent manner on on four human cancer cell lines [A549 (lung carcinoma), HEp-2 (larynx epidermoid carcinoma), HT-29 (colon adenocarcinoma) and MIA PaCa-2 (pancreas carcinoma)] .
