This compound can be detected in serum, urine, and hair samples using chromatography with electrospray ionization detection. The drug is metabolized by biotransformations such as phase extraction, hydrolysis, sulfation, glucuronidation, and conjugation with glucuronic acid or methyl glucuronide. 4α-Hydroxystanozolol binds to sex hormone receptors and inhibits the production of luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone. This may lead to decreased levels of testosterone and sperm production.
