1,6-Naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid is a synthetic compound that is used as an antibacterial agent. It inhibits the growth of Gram-negative bacteria by binding to the benzodiazepine receptor in their cell walls. 1,6-Naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid has been found to be effective against l-type Ca2+ channels and l-type Ca2+ channels, which are involved in regulating the contraction of cardiac muscle cells. The drug also inhibits the production of nitric oxide synthase in vascular endothelial cells, which prevents vasodilatation and reduces blood pressure. 1,6-Naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid has been shown to have antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
