It binds to the GABAA receptor with high affinity, triggering an allosteric change in the receptor protein that increases its ability to bind to GABA. This leads to an increase in the frequency of opening of ion channels and an increase in the inhibitory effect on neuronal activity. 3-[(2-Amino-1,3-thiazol-5-yl)methyl]benzoic acid has been shown to have a therapeutic effect on epilepsy and Parkinson's disease. It has also been used as a research tool for studying ion channels and ligands.
