1-Vinylimidazole is a sodium salt that has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells. It is also used as a reagent in organic synthesis and surface methodology. 1-Vinylimidazole has been shown to react with proton and ammonia, forming hydrazine. The reaction mechanism of 1-vinylimidazole is not well understood, but it is thought that the nitrogen atoms on the molecule are involved in the reaction process. By using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, phase transition temperatures for 1-vinylimidazole have been determined to be around 150 degrees Celsius. This chemical can be used for wastewater treatment, where it reacts with hydrogen peroxide and produces oxygen gas and water. Studies have shown that 1-vinylimidazole interacts with high values with human serum proteins when incubated at 37 degrees Celsius for 24 hours.
