CAS:Propylene carbonate is a glycol ether that is chemically stable. It is used as a solvent, plasticizer, and in the production of polyurethanes, polycarbonates, and polypropylene. Propylene carbonate has been shown to be an asymmetric synthesis catalyst for the reaction mechanism of ethylene oxide. This chemical has also been found to have transport properties that are similar to those of oxygen. Propylene carbonate can also be used in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy as a solid catalyst for the formation of methyl ethyl acid. Hydrochloric acid is formed during this process, which can then be used to produce propylene gas.
