Propylene carbonate has been shown to be an asymmetric synthesis catalyst for the reaction mechanism of ethylene oxide. Propylene carbonate can also be used in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy as a solid catalyst for the formation of methyl ethyl acid. Hydrochloric acid is formed during this process, which can then be used to produce propylene gas.
