It has a phase transition temperature of 46 K and a redox potential of 1.2 V, which makes it useful as a hydrogen storage material. Fullerene C70 has been shown to have transport properties that are similar to those of water and can be used to store hydrogen gas. Fullerene C70 is also able to form hydrogen bonds with other molecules such as actin filaments. This property may account for its ability to inhibit the polymerization of actin filaments in vitro and promote the depolymerization of actin filaments in vivo. Fullerene C70 is an optical sensor because it absorbs light at specific wavelengths, which can be used for sample preparation or intramolecular hydrogen transfer reactions.
