4-Hydroxy-2-oxoglutaric acid

Description:
4-Hydroxy-2-oxoglutaric acid, also known as 4-hydroxyglutarate, is an organic compound characterized by its structure, which features a hydroxyl group and a ketone group adjacent to a carboxylic acid. This compound is a derivative of 2-oxoglutaric acid, an important intermediate in the Krebs cycle, and plays a role in various metabolic pathways. It is typically a white to off-white crystalline solid, soluble in water, and exhibits weak acidity due to the presence of the carboxylic acid group. The compound is of interest in biochemical research, particularly in studies related to amino acid metabolism and potential implications in certain metabolic disorders. Its CAS number, 1187-99-1, is used for identification in chemical databases. As with many organic acids, it may participate in various chemical reactions, including esterification and decarboxylation, and can serve as a substrate for enzymatic reactions in biological systems. Safety data should be consulted for handling and storage, as with all chemical substances.

  • DL-4-Hydroxy-2-ketoglutarate dilithium salt

    CAS:

DL-4-Hydroxy-2-ketoglutarate dilithium salt (DL4KG) is a lysine analogue that is used as a substrate for the enzyme aldolase. DL4KG has a hydroxyl group, which can react with the amino group of lysine residues on proteins to produce an unstable intermediate. This process eventually leads to the production of glutamate and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate, which are needed in the synthesis of ATP. DL4KG has been shown to be an inhibitor of bacterial enzymes such as glutamate dehydrogenase, which catalyzes the conversion of L-glutamic acid to L-glutamine. Inhibition by DL4KG has been demonstrated in vitro at concentrations between 2 and 10 mM.
