CAS 120-12-7
:Anthracene
Description:
Anthracene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) composed of three fused benzene rings, resulting in a planar, linear structure. It is a solid at room temperature, typically appearing as colorless to pale yellow crystals. Anthracene is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as benzene, toluene, and chloroform. It has a melting point around 218 °C and a boiling point of approximately 340 °C. This compound is known for its strong fluorescence, making it useful in various applications, including as a scintillator in radiation detection and as a precursor for the synthesis of other organic compounds. Anthracene can undergo various chemical reactions, including oxidation and hydrogenation, and is also a component of coal tar. While it has some industrial applications, anthracene is classified as a potential carcinogen, necessitating careful handling and regulation in its use. Its environmental persistence and potential toxicity highlight the importance of monitoring its presence in ecosystems.

Anthracene
CAS:
Anthracene is a fluorescent probe that is used in the detection of hydrochloric acid. The fluorescence intensity of anthracene changes when it interacts with HCl, which makes it a good indicator for detecting this acid. Anthracene has been shown to bind to the bacterial cell wall skeleton and inhibit detoxification enzymes, such as beta-glucuronidase and beta-lactamase. This inhibition can be used to measure the activity of these enzymes. Anthracene has also been shown to have transport properties in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Protocatechuic acid has been shown to increase the solubility of anthracene in experimental conditions.
Formula:C14H10Purity:(Hplc) Min. 98.5%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:178.23 g/molAnthracene (High Purity) scintillation grade, 99%
