Triethyl orthoformate is a coumarin derivative that has been used as an antimicrobial agent in vitro. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus) and fungi (e.g., Candida albicans).
