Angiotensin

Description:
Angiotensin, specifically referring to angiotensin II, is a peptide hormone that plays a crucial role in the regulation of blood pressure and fluid balance in the body. It is part of the renin-angiotensin system, which is vital for cardiovascular homeostasis. Angiotensin II is known for its potent vasoconstrictive properties, leading to an increase in blood pressure. It also stimulates the release of aldosterone from the adrenal glands, promoting sodium and water retention by the kidneys, further contributing to blood pressure elevation. The substance is composed of eight amino acids, making it a relatively small peptide. Its structure allows it to bind to specific angiotensin receptors, which mediate its physiological effects. Angiotensin II is also involved in various pathophysiological processes, including heart failure and hypertension, making it a target for therapeutic interventions. In terms of safety, while angiotensin itself is a naturally occurring hormone, its dysregulation can lead to significant health issues, necessitating careful monitoring in clinical settings.

    CAS:
Made up of 9 amino acids, this Angiotensin 1-9 product, is a renin-angiotensin system (RAS) peptide produced when the angiotensin-converting enzyme type 2 (ACE2) hydrolyses the carboxy terminal leucine from angiotensin I (1-10). There is evidence to suggest that Angiotensin 1-9 is an antagonist of classical RAS signalling. RAS is highly important within the cardiovascular system in that it regulates blood pressure and electrolyte balance. However it can also inflict cardiac and vascular damage due to instigating structural remodelling and inflammation. It is therefore important to gain further understanding of Angiotensin’s role in RAS and how it influences cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown that when Angiotensin 1-9 was given to patients 2 weeks after myocardial infarction it caused a decreased cardiomyocyte hypertrophy in vivo and in vitro. This product is available as a trifluoroacetate (TFA) salt and can be used in scientific and therapeutic development research.
