ITD-1 is a hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) inhibitor that has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. ITD-1 inhibits the synthesis of HIF-1α, which normally activates genes that promote cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and tissue repair. ITD-1 has also been shown to inhibit TGFβ production, which is a growth factor that promotes tumour progression. In addition, ITD-1 can induce apoptosis in cancer cells by targeting ribonucleoprotein in the nucleus. This drug also inhibits collagen synthesis, which may reduce cell invasion and metastasis.

It promotes the degradation of the TGF-β type II receptor (TGFBR2) and the differentiation of cardiomyocytes. Additionally, it suppresses the formation of the mesoderm during the early differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs).
