2-Methyl-D-cysteine hydrochloride is a thiazolidine derivative that is produced by Streptomyces. It is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth and has been shown to be effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Escherichia coli. 2-Methyl-D-cysteine hydrochloride is synthesized by cyclocondensation of the amino acid cysteine with the triethylamine derivative desferrithiocin.
