Fmoc-D-Trp(Boc)-OH inhibits the histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzyme, which controls gene expression and cell proliferation, and is a potential anticancer drug. This molecule also inhibits the uptake of kynurenine by cancer cells, leading to cell death. Fmoc-D-Trp(Boc)-OH has been shown to inhibit the growth of human breast cancer cells in culture with an IC50 of 10 μM and to induce apoptosis in these cells with an IC50 of 2 μM.
