    MDR-652 is a novel analgesic that has potential to act as a vanilloid receptor agonist. It is a synthetic, non-opioid, non-NSAID medicine with analgesic activity and the potential to treat neuropathic pain. MDR-652 has been shown to be effective in animal models of neuropathic pain, such as allodynia and mechanical hyperalgesia. MDR-652 also has the ability to cross the skin barrier and reach the systemic circulation. MDR-652 is not active against gram positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus) or anaerobic bacteria (e.g., Clostridium difficile).
    MDR-652 also acts on TrpV1 receptors and has been shown in animal models to reduce inflammatory responses in tissues by inhibiting substance P release from sensory nerve endings.
