CAS:Silver sulfadiazine is a topical antibiotic that is used to prevent and treat burns. It has been shown to have antibacterial efficacy against antibiotic-resistant strains, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Silver sulfadiazine inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the bacterial cell wall and altering its permeability. This prevents the synthesis of proteins necessary for cell division, leading to cell death. It also exerts an anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
