5-Aminoindane is a synthetic drug used as a potent inhibitor of the bacterial enzyme, indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) that is involved in the metabolism of tryptophan. 5-Aminoindane has been shown to inhibit the production of nitric oxide in animal models for pain.
