    D-Cysteine hydrochloride is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water, alcohol, and ether. It has been used in the treatment of hypertensive patients with essential hypertension and long-term treatment of fatty acid deficiencies. The drug is also used as a nutrient solution for the treatment of patients with severe burns. D-Cysteine hydrochloride can be prepared by reacting sodium hydroxide solution with trifluoroacetic acid followed by neutralization with l-tartaric acid or hydrochloric acid. This leads to the production of hydrogen chloride gas, which reacts with caproic acid to form dl-cysteine hydrochloride.
