3,3'-Bisdemethylpinoresinol is a phenylpropanoid that has been shown to have antioxidant properties. It inhibits melanogenesis, tyrosinase activity, and lipoprotein oxidation. 3,3'-Bisdemethylpinoresinol has also been shown to prevent the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, which is thought to be the cause of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease.
