:Cimetidine
Description:
Cimetidine is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist primarily used to reduce stomach acid production, making it effective in treating conditions such as peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Its chemical formula is C10H13N5S, and it features a thiourea group, which is crucial for its pharmacological activity. Cimetidine is known for its ability to inhibit gastric acid secretion by blocking the action of histamine at the H2 receptors on parietal cells in the stomach lining. Additionally, it has a relatively short half-life and is metabolized in the liver, with some potential for drug interactions due to its effect on cytochrome P450 enzymes. Common side effects may include dizziness, headache, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Cimetidine is also notable for its anti-androgenic effects, which can lead to gynecomastia in some patients. Overall, it remains a significant medication in the management of acid-related disorders, although newer agents with fewer side effects are often preferred in clinical practice.

Cimetidine
CAS:
Cimetidine is a histamine-2 receptor antagonist that inhibits gastric acid secretion and reduces the activity of stomach enzymes. It is used to treat peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Cimetidine has been shown to inhibit the activity of drug-metabolizing enzymes such as cytochrome P450. Cimetidine also inhibits the transport protein P-glycoprotein (P-gp), which leads to increased concentrations of some drugs in the blood and tissues. This inhibition may lead to an increase in cardiac effects with certain drugs, such as x-ray diffraction data with taxol or h1 antagonists.
Formula:C10H16N6SPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:White PowderMolecular weight:252.34 g/molN-Cyano-N’-methyl-N”-[2-[[(4-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)methyl]thio]ethyl]guanidine
