Dimethyl 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate

Description:
Dimethyl 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate, with the CAS number 5453-67-8, is an organic compound characterized by its pyridine ring structure substituted with two carboxylate groups at the 2 and 6 positions, each esterified with a methyl group. This compound typically appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid or solid, depending on the temperature and purity. It is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone but has limited solubility in water due to its hydrophobic nature. Dimethyl 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate is often used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, particularly in the preparation of various pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Its reactivity is influenced by the presence of the carboxylate groups, which can participate in various chemical reactions, including esterification and nucleophilic substitutions. Additionally, it may exhibit biological activity, making it of interest in medicinal chemistry. Proper handling and storage are essential, as with many organic compounds, to ensure safety and stability.

  • 2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester

    CAS:

2,6-Pyridinedicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester is a drug that has shown anticancer activity in animal models. It binds to DNA, forming a ternary complex with the DNA and the enzyme topoisomerase I. The binding of this drug to the enzyme prevents it from breaking the DNA strands during replication, causing the cell to die. It has been shown that 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester can be used as a non-competitive inhibitor of topoisomerase I. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated that 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester is able to bind to human endometrial cancer cells with high affinity. Finally, 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester was found in x-ray crystal structures of complexes with hydrogen bonds and low activation enthalpy and entropy.
