5-amino-6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid

Description:
5-Amino-6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid, with the CAS number 5639-34-9, is an organic compound that belongs to the class of naphthalene derivatives. It features a naphthalene ring substituted with an amino group, a hydroxyl group, and a sulfonic acid group, which contribute to its solubility in water and its potential as a dye intermediate. This compound is typically a solid at room temperature and exhibits a crystalline structure. Its functional groups impart both acidic and basic properties, making it useful in various chemical reactions, particularly in the synthesis of azo dyes. The presence of the sulfonic acid group enhances its water solubility, while the amino and hydroxyl groups can participate in hydrogen bonding. 5-Amino-6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonic acid is also known for its application in the textile industry and in the production of pigments, as well as in analytical chemistry as a reagent. Safety data should be consulted for handling, as it may pose health risks if ingested or inhaled.

  • 1-Amino-2-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid

    CAS:
1-Amino-2-naphthol-6-sulfonic acid (ANSA) is a sulfonic acid that has been shown to inhibit the activity of the sodium/potassium ATPase pump. ANSA is excreted in the urine and faeces, and has been detected in human secretomes. This drug binds to the enzyme binding site on the pump, inhibiting its function and leading to inhibition of cellular uptake of sodium ions. ANSA has also been shown to be active against cancer cells in vitro. It binds to DNA and inhibits DNA synthesis by inhibiting RNA transcription. The drug also inhibits protein synthesis, which may be mediated by its ability to inhibit ribonucleotide reductase activity. Further toxicological studies are needed as this drug is not currently approved for medical use in humans.
