CAS 57432-61-8
:Methergine
Description:
Methergine, known chemically as methylergometrine, is a semi-synthetic derivative of ergot alkaloids, primarily used in obstetrics to prevent or treat postpartum hemorrhage due to uterine atony. Its CAS number is 57432-61-8. Methergine acts as a potent uterine stimulant, promoting contractions and facilitating the expulsion of the placenta. The substance is typically administered via intramuscular or oral routes, depending on the clinical scenario. It has a relatively short half-life, necessitating careful monitoring of dosage and timing. Common side effects may include hypertension, nausea, and headache, reflecting its vasoconstrictive properties. Due to its pharmacological effects, Methergine is contraindicated in patients with hypertension or cardiovascular disease. Its mechanism of action involves agonistic activity at serotonin and adrenergic receptors, leading to increased uterine tone and reduced blood loss during and after childbirth. As with any medication, it is essential to use Methergine under medical supervision to ensure safety and efficacy.

CAS:Controlled Product
Methylergonovine maleate salt is a prodrug of methylergometrine. It is a potent vasoconstrictor that has been used to treat severe hypertension, although it has been largely replaced by other drugs such as hydralazine and minoxidil. Methylergonovine maleate salt is also used to prevent and treat pulmonary edema in heart failure patients. This drug binds to the alpha-adrenergic receptor on vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to an increase in intracellular calcium ion concentration and vasoconstriction. The pharmacokinetics of methylergonovine maleate salt have been studied in healthy subjects using a pharmacokinetics study with LC-MS/MS method. Results show that this drug has low potency, with an elimination half-life of about 2 hours. Methylergonovine maleate salt is metabolized by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidized by cytochrome P
Formula:C24H29N3O6Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:455.5 g/mol
