:6,6′-Dithiobis[2-naphthalenol]
Description:
6,6′-Dithiobis[2-naphthalenol], also known as DTBN, is an organic compound characterized by its structure, which features two naphthol units connected by a disulfide bridge. This compound typically appears as a solid at room temperature and is known for its distinctive aromatic properties due to the presence of naphthalene rings. It is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water. DTBN exhibits antioxidant properties, making it of interest in various chemical applications, including as a stabilizer in polymers and as a reagent in organic synthesis. The presence of hydroxyl groups in the naphthol moieties contributes to its reactivity, allowing it to participate in various chemical reactions, such as oxidation and reduction processes. Additionally, the disulfide bond can be cleaved under reducing conditions, which can be exploited in biochemical applications. Safety data indicates that, like many organic compounds, it should be handled with care, as it may pose health risks if ingested or inhaled.

CAS:
2,2'-Dihydroxy-6,6'-dinaphthyldisulphide (DIDS) is a potent surfactant that can be used to induce inflammation and tissue damage in an animal model. This compound is also reactive in the presence of histochemical stains. DIDS reacts with disulfides found in the cytoplasm of cells to produce sulfenic acid intermediates. These intermediates are then converted into sulphonic acid by oxidation, which results in histochemical staining of tissues. Abdominal tissue samples stained with DIDS show a decrease in the number of neutrophils and macrophages as well as an increase in mast cells. Histochemical staining has been shown to be useful for diagnosing autoimmune diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
Formula:C20H14O2S2Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:350.46 g/mol2,2′-Dihydroxy-6,6′-dinaphthyl disulfide
