Pentafluorophenol is a chemical compound with the formula C6H5F5O. It is a colorless liquid that reacts with oxygen in air to form pentafluorophenoxy acid, CF2CO2H. Pentafluorophenol also forms stable complexes with metal hydroxides and inorganic acids, which may be responsible for its effectiveness against some bacteria. Pentafluorophenol reacts with hydrogen fluoride to generate bicyclic heterocycles, trifluoroacetic acid and water vapor.
