1-(2,3-Dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxin-5-yl)piperazine hydrochloride (DBDFP) is a dopamine receptor agonist and 5-HT2 receptor antagonist that has been shown to have an effect on locomotor activity. DBDFP also acts as a synergistic drug with eltoprazine in rats and humans. This drug has been shown to inhibit the uptake of serotonin into nerve terminals by blocking the serotonin transporter. In addition, chronic administration of this drug has been shown to cause degeneration of neurons in the hippocampal formation by increasing the expression of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and TNFα.
