CAS:N-Nitrosodiisobutylamine (NDIB) is a chemical that is used as a polymerization initiator in the production of polyurethane. It has an inhibitory effect on the growth of yeast cells and can be used to prevent or control the growth of microorganisms. NDIB reacts with nitrobenzoic acid, forming a reactive nitro group, which then reacts with an amine group to form an alkylthio group. The alkylthio group is cross-linked to other alkylthio groups to form a model protein in which the reactive nitro group is located close to the amino nitrogen. This model protein can be used to study how nitro groups react with enzymes and other proteins, such as those in human tissue.
