This binding prevents phospholipase C activation, which inhibits protein synthesis and cell division. 2-[(Dimethylamino)methylidene]-5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-1,3-dione also has antibiotic properties in vitro against Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis.
