It has been shown to have therapeutic potential for the treatment of symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. 1-Cyclohexyl-2-phenyl-1-ethanone inhibits serotonin reuptake in the brain by binding to the serotonin transporter (SERT) and preventing it from recycling serotonin into the presynaptic neuron. This active form of 1-cyclohexyl-2-phenyl-1 -ethanone can be synthesized by reacting benzylamine derivatives with birefringent crystals in hydrochloric acid. The reaction products are then purified using inorganic acid and polymer film amines. 1C2PE also binds to and inhibits protein kinase C, which is involved in inflammatory processes.
