    <p>Reaction with 2-phenylpent-4-en-1-ol with a boronate or styrene derivative in the presence of a catalyst such as zinc acetate, can give rise to allyl alcohol. The reaction is selective for the epoxide over the other two possible hydroxyl groups. Ring opening of the epoxide gives the homoallyl alcohol and subsequent reaction with another molecule of allyl alcohol leads to an oxirane.
