It inhibits the enzyme methoxyresorufin O-dealkylase (MROD), which converts methylmalonic acid to resorufin. This product also has an effect on apoptosis and cell cycle arrest, as well as inhibiting the synthesis of DNA and RNA. The 5-ethynyl group can be substituted with other groups such as methoxy, coumarins, or azido groups. This product is soluble in chloroform and dichloromethane.
