It is used to prepare calibration standards for use in analytical chemistry and as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. 2,5-Dimethoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride inhibits the production of neurotransmitter acetylcholine by preventing acetylcholinesterase from breaking down acetylcholine. This inhibition leads to an increase in the concentration of acetylcholine at synaptic junctions, which causes paralysis and death. This compound also has anticoagulant properties and can be used orally as a rodenticide.
