It also reacts with fatty acids to produce polymers. 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenylpropionic acid methyl ester has been shown to be an effective antibacterial agent against Gram negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Defensin HNP-1 is a trifluoroacetate salt of human defensin HNP-1.
