CAS:Flumequine is a new fluorinated quinolone antibiotic that has been shown to be effective against a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing mRNA synthesis. Flumequine has also been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis in vitro, but not in vivo. The high values for fluorescence detection of this drug have been demonstrated using an analytical method that measures the reaction between fluorescamine and flumequine. This reaction produces a fluorescent product that can be measured by a fluorescence detector. Flumequine may also bind to human serum proteins, which may interfere with its efficacy in vivo.
