Cefazolin sodium is a cephalosporin antibiotic that has a high affinity for the peptidoglycan cell wall of bacteria. Cefazolin sodium inhibits bacterial growth by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, thereby preventing cross-linking of the peptidoglycan layers in the cell wall. The effects of cefazolin sodium on chemiluminescence were determined in polymer compositions, which showed an increase in light emission when combined with ambroxol hydrochloride injection. This drug also has been shown to inhibit IL-2 receptor activation in human cells and has been used to treat infectious diseases such as sepsis and pneumonia. Cefazolin sodium can cause drug interactions when administered with vancomycin therapy or sorbitol dehydrogenase inhibitors, such as phenytoin.
